To the editor: The school bonding in the referendum is outrageous! Schools have continuously lived well beyond the means set in their budgets. In these tough economic times, the school board is proposing an outrageous tax levy to cover their school building plans. Have they ever sought to finance these ideas independently of an increase to the tax levy? Many, who are out of work or retired to a fixed income, cannot afford these huge increases to their real estate tax to finance these plans. Many folks exited the city of Duluth when they were unhappy with the “Red Plan” and what it would cause to their finances. Do we want Hermantown residents to leave because they cannot afford such a “Cadillac plan” that the school board is proposing? I would urge the readers to vote “NO” on this referendum. This should send a message to the school board to seek out a better long range plan that is more financially acceptable.
Thank you. Richard E. Harri Hermantown
