The Hermantown Police Department will be making the plunge next month in the annual Polar Plunge in Lake Superior.Hermantown Police Chief Jim Crace and members of the police department, along with Maki and Overom (city attorney’s office), will once again be making the plunge. If you would like to make a donation to this cause, go to http://www.plungemn.org/team/hermantownpd and make a pledge. The department’s goal is $3,475.

School board welcomes new members

With three new members being sworn in Monday night to the Hermantown Board of Education, the school board will have a much different look heading into 2013.
Stephanie Hamell, Aaron Samela and Laura Thorsvik officially took their seats on the school board after a swearing in ceremony to start Monday’s meeting. The three new members will join Greg Carlson, Deanna Gronseth and Leo Plewa on the six-member board.
The three new members were the top vote getters in the November election.
Incumbents Todd Aanonsen and Sheri Sullivan did not seek re-election. Rob McLachlan, who had been appointed to Jim Knapp’s seat after Knapp resigned, was the only incumbent to run this fall.
Gronseth was named board chair for 2013, with Hamell being named vice-chair and Thorsvik named clerk/treasurer.
